Talking AI characters in Claude

Add bitHuman's hosted MCP server as a Claude connector, and its AI characters speak in your chat on the web, desktop and mobile.

What the connector does

bitHuman runs a hosted MCP server. Add it to Claude as a custom connector and its AI characters, talking avatars with their own voices, speak in your chat. You don't need a bitHuman account to use it. The server has three tools:

  • list_characters lists the characters that can speak, with a picture of each.
  • make_character_video makes a short clip of one character saying your words, 3 to 200 characters, in its own voice.
  • talk_to_character opens a live voice conversation with a character in the chat, for up to a minute.

Add the connector

On claude.ai, open Settings, Connectors and choose Add custom connector. Name it bitHuman, paste the address below, leave the sign-in fields empty, then Add. The connector then works in Claude on the web, the desktop app and the mobile apps.

Claude Code

One command adds the same server to Claude Code. Afterwards, claude mcp list shows bithuman as connected.

Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http bithuman https://mcp.bithuman.ai/mcp

How it works

Ask in a new chat, for example “Show me the bitHuman characters” or “Have Wise Pup explain photosynthesis in one sentence”. Claude writes the words; bitHuman voices them and animates the character on its own servers, then the clip plays in the chat. A live conversation runs inside the chat, with Open in a new tab as a fallback.

Each person can make 10 new clips a day, and asking for the same line again replays it. Clips are kept for 7 days.

What the connector stores

Common fixes

If something does not show up:

  • Claude does not use bitHuman: name it in the prompt, such as “bitHuman characters”, and check the connector is on for the chat.
  • New characters do not show after an update: disconnect bitHuman in Settings, Connectors, then connect it again.
  • The live call shows a black screen: choose Open in a new tab.

What the connector keeps

Your assistant writes the words. The connector calls no AI model to write or change them; it only voices and animates them. Every character is an AI character, not a real person, and every clip is labelled as AI-generated in the player.

The connector sets no cookies, and it receives no name, email address, account, chat history, memory or file from Claude. Each clip sits at an unguessable web address for 7 days, then it is deleted.

What the connector stores

Use your own avatar

The hosted connector speaks only as bitHuman's own characters. For your own avatar, create an agent and add the MCP server built into the bitHuman CLI to Claude Code or Claude Desktop instead. Your client can then create avatars, render talking videos, embed agents and check your credits as tool calls.

Essence 2 renders a photoreal person from one portrait. Expression 2 renders any character, from people to animals and cartoons, from one portrait. Creating an agent needs a paid plan, Creator or higher.
